Dead In Winter

A short horror game for the 15th Rpg Maker Horror Game Jam.

The player crashes their car in the icy countryside and seeks shelter in a nearby cabin. Unfortunately the night is coming and something else seems to be out there is the snow.

I am a huge fan of RPG Maker Horror Games and wanted to try it. I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Features:

  • Scavenge for firewood to keep a fire lit to avoid freezing to death.
  • Explore an seemingly abandoned cabin piecing together what happened there.

How to play:

The game should launch in the browser and can be played normally there. If this doesn't work or you want a download for other reasons just download the zip file, unzip it and launch the "game" exe file.

Nice little game.

Good game! I really liked how you made the environment and added a bit of interact-able story to give us a sense of dread. Reading about that thing in the papers and the journal, as well as finding that cave, worked really well at making me feel scared. My only criticism is that the model for that monster/animal is not really scary. One look at it made all the dread go away. If it had a model that resembled something beastly, it would be perfect.

Thanks for the feedback!

Totally agree with you. I wish I had a better sprite for the monster.

I like the game. The environment was very interactive and did well to help the story. Good story telling it achieves the horror feel.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. I was always a huge fan of RPG Maker Horror games and wanted to try my hand at it. I'm glad you like the environment. I tried my best to have it tell a story and be more than just decoration.

I think the use of the w ending in o word is better censored if you’re not an Indigenous person?

Actually a good idea. Turns out mentioning the name is meant to draw them or give it power. I should update the log to reflect this.

BTW what did you think of the game?
